"What's in Ireland?"

Image
How did I get here, you ask? Some of you may be wondering, how in the hell are you in Ireland? Well, let me answer this for you. Once I moved home last July, I starting working for  Poblanos again, a local Mexican restaurant in my hometown; at this point, I had been working for Poblanos on and off since the fall of 2012. My boss had introduced the idea of managing the restaurant for her on Saturdays and Sundays, as well as serving or bartending as needed, I quickly agreed (which in all honesty, I liked this set-up a lot).  I also knew that taking this time to take care of   myself would be good idea; I was able to catch up on seeing the dentist and to start seeing a chiropractor for the issues I had been experiencing in my neck and other areas. Everything kind of came to a head one day as I realized that I had really put the effort into taking care of myself for the past year, and something needed to change real quick and right now. After the start of the new ...

A Very Cold and Coastal Trip

Image
My first trip out of Dublin really wasn't out of Dublin... in terms of County Dublin anyway. But I finally decided that I was good and settled and ready to travel a little farther away from Dublin than normal. My original plan included starting on my way up to Howth all the way down to Bray and Greystones, but unfortunately, there was a fire on the way to Bray and that certainly changed the plans. However, I was still determined to have a personal outing that day and decided I would just go to one place. Howth is a coastal town mainly used for fishing, and honestly has some of the prettiest views and the freshest seafood dishes around. I started the day pretty late around 1:00pm. Under the impression that Howth was an hour away by train, I immediately picked up some doughnuts for the ride out to Howth to enjoy as I watched the land pass by. Although it was extremely warm in the city, I was rudely awakened by how windy and cold it was on the coast. I was dumb enough not to ...

You've Been There For Over a Month... pt. 1

How's training going? You might also be wondering what I've been up to in terms of the actual training, so we'll start there. I'm over a month into my training now, and my days are spent in this order while I am at work: review material from the previous day, commit to some practice, watch accounting videos that actually don't suck, learn new materials, and a few days of trying to record tutorial videos that will help present and future clients. But to be honest, there are days where I am completely drained from that schedule and will take a few hours to decompress at work. I know, that sounds really bad, but honestly, I am left alone most days where I may have a few hours of training or may just have the day to myself. But I can't really argue with that, I enjoy being able to direct my own schedule as I please, and watch my favorite shows during my lunch hour. Overall, there's truly nothing to complain about especially when my office is full of extremely...

On The Third Floor & To The Right

Image
The Red Cow Moran was such a lovely hotel to stay in (the breakfast probably having been the best part), but I was more than ready to finally have my own permanent space for the next few months. The Tuesday after my first week in Dublin, I was informed that Margaret had secured a room for me in an area called Saggart; it's fifteen minutes away from my office if riding on the tram. Speaking of the tram, it's only a seven minute walk away from my front door step. Margaret informed me that the house had only been inhabited by the owners for maybe two or three months, and my room had never even been used before. I was already impressed by the fact that my room had been pristine, but there was also a full bathroom in my room as well (with a badass shower might I add). The best part of the room is the window facing Citywest and Saggart Village. It makes the room extremely welcoming and comforting. And if you look far enough left, you can see the mountains that hug the coast. I have...

A Missed Flight Later

Image
April 20, 2018 Ah, would you truly expect any less from me if I didn't screw up somewhere along the line? Although I tried to stay up until 4 so I could just go ahead and leave the hotel, I mistakenly slept.. slept through my alarm and then the flight. When I woke up, I was thrown into an immediate panic attack and cried for twenty minutes straight before calling my mom to try and figure out what to do. I then called Margaret (with hopes she wouldn't be too upset), and we were able to reschedule the flight to leave out at 11ish. Because I missed the coach to the airport, I spent a whopping €43 for the one-way trip there, but I had an awesome driver named John, but went by Jack. He told me that he doesn't normally have very nice patrons, but that it was a pleasant surprise that I was so friendly. The ride to the airport was full of laughter and learning about the laws here in Ireland.  Surprisingly, checking in for my flight was easy and I was able to get through securi...
